How often should you clean carpet in Chattanooga?
Twelve months is the honest default for a house around Chattanooga with no animals and no small children. Cut that to six once either one arrives. Busy households run shorter than the tidy annual rule you read everywhere else, because the grit that comes in on shoes wears a pile out as fast as traffic does.
- Once a year covers a quiet house. Twice covers a dog, a toddler or a back door that opens straight onto the yard.
- Rentals get done at every turn, whatever the calendar says.
- Aim at late May and late November. Those are the two gaps between the seasons that matter here.
- The soil comes up and out, and you are walking on the floor an hour later. Call 423-284-0493.
The schedule, by what is actually living in the house
Nobody cleans carpet on an anniversary. People call when something looks wrong, and around here that is a year or two after the wear began.
| Household | How often | What is driving it here |
|---|---|---|
| No pets, no small children | Once a year | Drive and walkway grit, most of it dropped in the first three feet inside each door |
| One indoor dog | Every six months | Dander and body oil packed into two or three lanes, plus what four paws bring in |
| Children under five | Every six months | Floor-level living, and everything tracked onto the same three feet inside each door |
| Rental turnover | Every tenant, no exceptions | The dated receipt matters as much as the carpet, and an empty unit turns same-day |
| Anyone adding the anti-allergen treatment | Twice a year, timed | Late May and late November, with the treatment measured into the solution on both visits |
A house with a dog and a toddler is still twice a year, not four times. Those visits overlap; they do not stack. And an entryway is not a room: if the only tired strip is the first stride inside the back door, say so and we will price that instead.
Why the interval is shorter here

Most national advice says once a year and stops there. It was written for dirt that only discolours. The grit that comes into a house here is hard and sharp-edged, and it cuts as well as stains. Our guide to dirt and grit in Chattanooga carpet works through it properly.
For scheduling, the consequence is short. Grit sitting in a pile is not idle. It cuts a little more each time somebody crosses the room, and a lane that has gone thin does not come back however well it is cleaned afterwards. So an interval is not about appearance. It is about taking the abrasive out before it finishes the job.
Vacuuming does not settle this. A domestic machine lifts what sits near the top of the pile, while the heavier sharp grit travels downward and stops against the backing where nothing household reaches it. That is the material a professional visit is really for, and it is why we open with a dry pass.
Where the house sits, and what is on the floor
A house on a mountain street wants its stairs done twice for every once the bedrooms do, because trail grit rides indoors on boots and dog feet and gets left on the third tread. A back door onto an unpaved drive brings in more coarse grit than a front door off a paved walk, and the first stride inside it is the strip to judge the floor by.
The carpet itself matters as much as the address. A wool rug, a polyester berber and a nylon cut pile do not take the same solution. The technician reads each cleaning code before he starts and matches the low-moisture process to the fiber in front of him. That is how the same visit can take in the sofa, and the delicate fabrics most cleaners decline, without anything being soaked.
The seasonal half of the answer

Two windows a year are worth aiming at. Late May, once the spring pollen has finished coating everything and the doors start staying open. Then late November, before the house shuts up for the winter and the floor has to hold for months without much help. Clean at the end of a season instead of the middle of one and the floor starts that stretch clean.
The other half is what the last cleaning left behind. Soap that never came back out dries to a film in the carpet, and film pulls the next month of soil in fast, so a carpet cleaned that way needs doing again sooner. Our equipment lifts the solution out with the soil and leaves the fiber bare, so the next visit is further off. Pollen, humid air and your carpet covers the seasonal side.
Four ways to tell it is due early
Move the sofa
Look at the carpet nobody has walked on. That color is what yours was. A lane sitting a shade or two down means the grit has been working a while.
Rub down into the pile
Push your fingertips through the fiber in a doorway and drag sideways. Gritty rather than soft means the abrasive is riding on the backing, and no vacuum reaches it.
Check the first three feet
Every outside door has a strip that takes the whole load. Judge the floor there, not in the middle. The rest is six months behind it.
Smell it with the door shut
Old residue gives itself away in a room that has been closed up. A bedroom that reads musty after a weekend away, and fine an hour after the door opens, is the carpet, not the house.
What a year of this looks like
| Schedule | What the year runs |
|---|---|
| Three rooms, once a year | from $109 |
| Three rooms, twice a year | from $218 |
| A hallway and one flight of stairs added to each visit | typically $60–$80 |
| Pet treatment, on the room that needs it | typically $30–$40 |
Every visit starts at $99, and pet jobs start at $149. If the dog has got past what a routine clean settles, our pet treatment is the answer: the enzyme goes on wider than the mark and is given the time it needs to take the source apart, with a 100% pet odor removal guarantee behind it. Every rate we charge is itemized in the cost guide.
Call 423-284-0493 and say how many rooms, how many animals, and how long it has been. Text 423-284-0493 if that suits you better. Someone picks up six days a week, Monday to Saturday, 8 AM until 6 PM, and the work is backed by love the clean or it's free.
Questions about how often to clean
My carpet looks fine. Is there a reason to do it this year?
Looks are the last thing to go. Grit works its way down through a pile and parks against the backing, out of a vacuum's reach, and it cuts from down there for months before a lane reads dirty from standing height. Booking on an interval gets the abrasive out while the damage can still be undone. Three rooms up to 450 square feet start at $109.
How many cleanings a year does one indoor dog justify?
Two, roughly six months apart. A dog brings grit indoors on four feet rather than two, leaves oil in the same handful of lanes daily, and settles into one warm patch by the window. None of that is a stain, so nothing makes you pick up the phone. It simply accumulates. Add a urine spot and our pet treatment typically runs $30 to $40 for each room that needs one, with those jobs starting at $149.
Why does a carpet cleaned by some companies look dirty again within a month?
Nearly always because the last cleaning left something behind. Too much water drives soil down to the backing, where it wicks back up as the carpet dries, and soap that never came out dries to a sticky film that grabs the next month of grit. Either way the interval collapses. Our technicians put down a measured amount of solution, work it through the pile and lift it back out with the soil. An hour later the floor is walkable, and the gap before the next clean stretches out.
Does putting carpet on a schedule wear it out faster?
Here it does the reverse, because the thing wearing the carpet is the grit already sitting in it. Sharp grit against nylon is an abrasive, and every day it stays is a day of wear. Our process uses very little water and the floor is walkable an hour later, so a visit costs the fiber almost nothing and takes away the material that was sanding it.
How far ahead of a tenant move-in should the carpet be done?
The day before is fine and the same morning usually works. An empty unit has no furniture to work around, and a walk-through at four o'clock after a nine o'clock start is ordinary for us. You get an itemized receipt with the date on it. Every visit starts at $99, and three rooms up to 450 square feet start at $109.
Do the area rugs need doing as often as the carpet under them?
More often, usually. Rugs sit exactly where the grit lands: inside doors, at the foot of stairs, under the dining table. One in a doorway earns two cleanings for every one the bedrooms need. Rugs typically run $1 to $2 per square foot regardless of fiber, and the work happens where the rug already lies. Nothing is taken away and nothing comes back a week later.
Back on your floor before lunch is over.
