The run west

Half an hour west on I-24, and Exit 152 does the rest

Carpet cleaning in South Pittsburg takes three rooms, up to 450 square feet between them, in one low-moisture visit, and the floor is dry in about an hour. The drive is I-24 west to Exit 152 at Kimball, then over on US 72. About thirty miles from downtown Chattanooga, and the work out here is the work we do in town.

You come down off the interstate into the lowest town in East Tennessee, on the flat ground between the Cumberland Plateau and the river. Our crew makes that run most weeks.

Call 423-284-0493 with a room count and you get a straight answer on the phone. At the house the technician walks the rooms with you, checks the label on every rug and every piece of furniture joining the ticket, and waits for your yes before the first drop goes down. If the total moves, it is because you added a room.

Our Promise

If the clean doesn't satisfy you, the visit is free.

Not a credit toward next time. Not a manager who stops returning calls. Tell us what fell short, we come back and redo it at no charge, and if it still isn't right, we tear up the invoice and you owe nothing.

What the visit covers

Room by room, and a total you agree to first

Three rooms up to 450 square feet start at $109, and the technician measures every one of them before a single figure is written, so there is nothing to argue about afterwards.

Three rooms, one visitfrom $109450 sq ft, walkable in about an hour
High-traffic lanes, each roomtypically $20–$30For the paths that never quite come back
Rooms and stairs after thattypically $40–$50A large room typically $50 to $100, a hallway $20 to $30; every visit from $99
Rugs, furniture and treatmentsfrom $1/sq ftSofa from $140, sectional from $240; pet rooms typically $30 to $40 on visits from $149; sanitizer typically $20 to $30 a room on visits from $119

Three rooms means three rooms, whatever their size, so long as they stay under 450 square feet together. A front room, a hall bedroom and a den often fit inside one visit here, which is why a small house in this town usually gets more of its floor done than a new build does.

Every area rug has its code checked before anything else, because a hand-knotted Oriental, a silk piece and a wool one are three different jobs, and we clean them where they lie on the floor they already sit on. Nothing of yours goes out your front door. Upholstery cleaning is booked onto the same trip and written on the same invoice as the carpet.

Pet stain and odor treatment goes on the rooms that need it and carries a 100% pet odor removal guarantee. Antibacterial sanitizer goes after the bacteria living in the soil, on whichever rooms you pick. Love the clean or it’s free, printed on the same sheet as the total.

How the clean is done

The tag first, then the lanes, then the rest of the room

The historic district runs off Cedar Avenue around the Heritage Museum, and a good deal of the carpet we clean sits inside it. Whatever the house, the order of work is the same: read the tag, price the floor, then start where the wear is.

The tag is the care code on any rug or piece of furniture joining the ticket. W takes water, S takes solvent only, WS takes either, and X takes a vacuum and a straight answer. Our technician reads it before a bottle is opened and tells you at the door how each piece will be handled, because a wool runner in a front hall is not a nylon bedroom carpet and should not be treated like one.

Then the carpet. Our low-moisture carpet cleaning puts a small amount of solution into the pile, loosens the soil where it sits and draws it up and out, instead of driving it down to the backing under a wash of water. Nothing sticky stays behind to catch next week’s dirt, so the floor stays clean roughly three times longer than after a soapy clean.

The crew doing it are our own employees, trained on our own equipment, and everything they carry through your front door is gentle enough for a household with children and animals in it. If a room does not come back the way you hoped, say so before they leave; they go over it again, and if it still is not right the visit is free.

The soil we actually find

Fine dark foundry soil, one door, the same three rooms

The town was named by people who expected an iron center like Pittsburgh, and Lodge has been pouring here for well over a century, two foundries in town, two blocks east of Cedar Avenue.

That short walk is the whole job. A good share of the carpet we clean in this town belongs to somebody who walks to work at a working foundry. The soil that comes home on those boots is fine and dark and it arrives dry, so it travels further down the pile than mud ever does and it will not brush off. Getting it back out takes a process that lifts from the base of the pile.

It lands in the same rooms every week, because a small house has one entry and everybody uses it. Front room, hall, the path to the kitchen. You see those lanes before you see anything else. A South Pittsburg job is usually a traffic-lane job rather than a whole-house job, and the high-traffic treatment earns its place here more often than anywhere else we go.

April is the other half of the calendar. The National Cornbread Festival has run since 1996 on the last full weekend of the month, drawing a crowd many times the size of the town, with factory tours, cook-offs, the classic car show and the historic tour. Everybody hosting anything cleans before it. The week before the festival is the one to have us out, and the halls and fellowship rooms that fill that weekend book the same days, so the commercial side of that two weeks goes first.

Stays cleaner 3× Longer between cleanings on average vs. a soapy conventional clean

Ever had carpet turn sticky a week after a cleaning?

That tacky feeling is detergent the machine couldn't rinse back out. It dries inside the fiber and stays there, and sticky fiber grabs the next soil that walks through the door.

✓Nothing sticky left behindOur low-moisture process uses a fraction of the water and leaves the fiber clean and bare, so there's no soapy film for dirt to cling to.
✓Stays cleaner about 3× longerOn average, carpet cleaned our way holds its look about three times longer between visits than carpet left with detergent residue in it.
✓No re-soiling a month laterThe gray path that reappears a few weeks after a cleaning is almost always residue pulling soil back. Take the residue away and it stops happening.
✓Dry in about an hourA fraction of the water means no soaked carpet and no box fans running all evening. Furniture, kids and dogs are back on it the same afternoon.

Questions from Cedar Avenue and Richard City

Will foundry dust come out of a cut-pile carpet?

Most of it does, and it comes out better the more often we get at it. Fine dark soil off a work boot does not sit on top of a cut pile. It goes in dry, works down the fiber and packs in at the base where a household vacuum never reaches. Our low-moisture clean lifts it without soaking the floor, and the high-traffic treatment goes on the worst lanes wherever our technician thinks it will actually show. Carpet that has held that soil for fifteen years may not come back to the color it started at, and you will hear that from us at the door.

Can you book us in before the Cornbread Festival weekend?

Yes, and the earlier you ask the better your pick of mornings. The festival takes the last full weekend in April and brings about 23,000 people into a town of roughly 3,000, so the back half of April is the busiest stretch of our year inside 37380. Call 423-284-0493 and we will hold you a date. Three rooms and up to 450 square feet go on one visit, and the floor is walkable again about an hour after we finish, so a Thursday clean is ready for a Friday house full of company.

Do you clean church halls and fellowship rooms?

We do, and there is plenty of that work here. The historic district holds the Episcopal church and four more, and a fellowship room takes harder use in a week than most living rooms take in a month. We measure the floor, write the total down before anything is sprayed, and work around the service and supper schedule. Ask for the commercial rate when you call 423-284-0493. A room cleaned in the morning is set up again by evening.

How small a room still counts toward the three?

A bedroom, a den, a front room, anything with a door and a floor counts as one of the three, so long as the three together stay under 450 square feet. Small rooms count the same as big ones, so a three-room visit from $109 often covers a front room, a bedroom and a den together. A room bigger than that typically runs $50 to $100 on its own. Hallways are priced separately, typically $20 to $30, stairs around $40 to $50 a flight, and every visit starts at $99.

Is the same process safe on a wool runner and a synthetic bedroom carpet?

Yes, and that is the point of running one low-moisture process. It puts a small amount of solution into the fiber and lifts most of it straight back out, so a wool runner, a nylon bedroom carpet and a sofa with an S code are all safer under it than under a method that starts by drenching them. Our technician reads the care tag on each piece before anything is opened, W, S, WS or X, and explains at the door how that piece will be handled. The code decides the method. The written price stays where it was.
