The short version

Three rooms of Rocky Face carpet go on one visit, 450 square feet shared between them, and the pile takes about an hour to come back to walkable. From downtown Chattanooga it is roughly thirty miles: I-75 south past Ringgold, off at Tunnel Hill, then a few miles along U.S. 41. Anything that is not wall-to-wall carpet has its code checked before the first bottle comes out of the bag.

The run south

Most of the drive is interstate, and the last of it is U.S. 41

The route out of downtown Chattanooga is I-75 the whole way south, past Ringgold, off at Tunnel Hill, then U.S. 41 down into 30740. A little over half an hour with ordinary traffic on it.

Three rooms take in 450 square feet of carpet counted across them, and low moisture leaves the pile no more than damp. Give your room count to whoever answers at 423-284-0493 and they will tell you which mornings a van is already headed down I-75.

The technician measures each room before a single thing is plugged in, says what the fiber will and will not give back, and then waits on you. One bedroom and a hall still earns the trip out here, so nobody is talked round the rest of the house, and no mileage lands on a Georgia ticket.

We are in north Georgia six days a week, Monday through Saturday, 8 AM to 6 PM, closed Sunday. Rocky Face falls on the same Georgia run as Ringgold and Rossville, so a slot usually opens inside a few days.

What lands on these floors

Some of this soil started out as carpet

Close view of the carpet with fine pale fiber settled at the base of the pile

Whitfield County makes carpet for a living, and Rocky Face is one of the places the people who do that work come home to. What comes off a plant floor is not dirt in the ordinary sense of the word. It is fiber: short, pale, synthetic and weightless, and it travels home on shirts, cuffs, laces and hat brims.

Fiber fly behaves like nothing else we pull out of houses on this list. It does not stain and it does not smell. It is slick, so it slips down past the pile and gathers at the backing where a vacuum head has nothing to catch, and year on year it lays a soft gray haze along the routes people walk. Plenty of owners read that as a floor at the end of its life and start pricing a new one, when what is on it is a few seasons of somebody's working day.

Dirt and road grit come in behind it. The last stretch to a front door out here is dirt or grass, never pavement, so the coarse material gets a free ride in on the same shoes and lands in the same three feet of hallway. The fly dulls the color. The grit cuts the fibers.

Soap is the wrong answer to both. Detergent dries tacky down at the base of the pile and hands the next month of fly something to hold onto. Our low-moisture carpet cleaning takes the film out and leaves nothing behind for it to stick to, which is why a floor done this way goes about three times as far between cleanings.

On a lane loaded for years the high-traffic treatment goes on that room, and the technician says first whether your carpet will show enough difference to earn it. Everything the crew carries in is mild enough to use around a toddler and a house dog, so nothing keeps the family out of the room once the floor is dry.

How we clean out here

Whole houses, one careful pass at a time

Rocky Face has no city limits, so the work is spread across the whole of 30740: houses well apart, long drives, the mailbox out at the road. The community sits against the ridge that named it, after a rock formation people thought looked like a face, and what that puts on our schedule is whole-house work. We plan for five or six rooms and a staircase in a morning.

Every room gets the same process. The technician walks the floor first, notes the fiber and the wear, and reads the care tag on any rug or sofa that is joining the ticket. W, S, WS or X, the tag sets how that piece is handled, and a solvent-only or delicate fabric never sees water it was not made for. On carpet, the low-moisture pass loosens the soil at the base of the pile and lifts it out.

That is the difference people notice a few months on. In a house with better carpet on the floor than the builder would have put there, it is the whole argument for having the job done properly.

The technician who measures your floor is the one who cleans it.

Owner's picks

The pairs the owner picked out

These came off our technicians' phones, shot on real jobs the day the work was done. The owner went through the lot and settled on these. What holds them together is the method, and that does not change from one floor to the next.

Pricing

Every line on the sheet, and nothing after it

Three rooms start at $109, sharing 450 square feet between them. Everything after that is measured in front of you and added only because you asked for it.

Bedrooms past the first threetypically $40–$50An oversized living room typically $50 to $100
Hallwaystypically $20–$30A flight of stairs typically $40 to $50; every visit starts at $99
Protectant and sanitizertypically $20–$30/roomThose visits start at $119; pet rooms typically $30 to $40, pet visits from $149
Area rugs and furniturefrom $1/sq ftDining chair typically $10 to $15, sofa from $140, all of it done in the room

Pet stain and odor work goes on the rooms that need it and nowhere else, and it carries a 100% pet odor removal guarantee. If the smell finds its way back, so do we, and that return trip is on us.

Every area rug is sorted by its own cleaning code before anything is opened. A wool piece, a silk one, a hand-knotted Oriental and a machine-made synthetic all ask for something different, and the code settles it before we start. We work on a rug flat on the floor of the room it belongs to, so nothing of yours goes on the van. Upholstery can join the carpet ticket and save a second run out here.

Love the clean or it's free. Should a room come back short of what you hoped, say so before the van pulls back down the drive. It gets redone on the spot, and a visit that still misses is one you are not billed for.

Where we work

The gap, the ridge and the road through it

U.S. 41 is Chattanooga Road where it runs past here, and it gets to Dalton by cutting the ridge at Mill Creek Gap. That cut is the landmark people give directions by. A small parking area sits on the south side of the road at the gap, a mile east of Rocky Face, with a plaque and historic markers on it.

Day to day the fixed points are plainer. Westside Middle School takes grades 6 through 8 from a Rocky Face address. Dalton is where most of this ZIP shops and works, minutes east through the gap, and Tunnel Hill is a few miles north up 41.

When you book, give us the road name and roughly how far along it you are rather than a number we will hunt for in the dark. Call 423-284-0493 or text the same number and we will find a morning for you.

Stays cleaner 3× Longer between cleanings on average vs. a soapy conventional clean

Ever had carpet turn sticky a week after a cleaning?

That tacky feeling is detergent the machine couldn't rinse back out. It dries inside the fiber and stays there, and sticky fiber grabs the next soil that walks through the door.

✓Nothing sticky left behindOur low-moisture process uses a fraction of the water and leaves the fiber clean and bare, so there's no soapy film for dirt to cling to.
✓Stays cleaner about 3× longerOn average, carpet cleaned our way holds its look about three times longer between visits than carpet left with detergent residue in it.
✓No re-soiling a month laterThe gray path that reappears a few weeks after a cleaning is almost always residue pulling soil back. Take the residue away and it stops happening.
✓Dry in about an hourA fraction of the water means no soaked carpet and no box fans running all evening. Furniture, kids and dogs are back on it the same afternoon.

Questions from the 30740 side of the ridge

Does lint off a plant floor really settle into carpet, or does a vacuum get it?

A vacuum lifts what is sitting on top and misses what is not. Fiber fly is light and slick, so it slides past the pile and gathers down at the backing where suction has no grip on it, and over a few years it builds a soft gray haze along the lanes people walk. Owners read that as carpet wearing out. Our low-moisture clean works the haze loose and lifts it out on very little water, and nothing tacky stays behind for the next month of it to cling to. Where a walking lane has taken years of this, the high-traffic treatment usually earns its keep, and the technician says so standing in the room.

Does good carpet cost more to clean?

No. We go by rooms, not by fiber. Three rooms are three rooms whether the pile is builder-grade or something you carried home for a figure nobody outside this county could get. What good carpet changes is the result rather than the bill, because a dense nylon holds its twist and comes back further than a tired olefin will. The technician measures each room, writes down what is really on the floor, and tells you standing in it which carpet will repay the visit and which will not.

We are a mile off 41 on a dirt road. Is that a problem for the van?

It is not. Long drives are ordinary in 30740 and the day is planned around them. All the equipment asks for at the house is a normal wall outlet, and the low-moisture process runs on a fraction of the water a soaking clean would take, so the kitchen tap covers a whole house. Tell whoever picks up at 423-284-0493 which road you are on and roughly how far down it you sit, and the crew turns up ready.

How much of the 30740 ZIP do you actually cover?

All of it. That is a great deal of ground for one postal name, spread thin along a lot of side roads, and none of it carries a mileage charge. Three rooms start at $109 at the far end of a dirt road and at the same $109 a block off U.S. 41. Every visit starts at ninety-nine dollars, so a bedroom and a hallway together still earn the drive out. Crews are on the road Monday to Saturday, eight until six, and Sundays nobody runs.

If we cannot do the whole house at once, which rooms are worth doing first?

The hallway, and whatever room the outside door opens into. The last stretch to a front door out here is dirt or grass, so everything arrives on shoes and gets ground into the first twenty feet of carpet while the back of the house stays fairly clean. Doing that pair together is the quickest way to lift how the whole floor reads, and the technician will say so. Back bedrooms can generally wait another year.
