How to hire a carpet cleaner in Chattanooga
Almost every carpet cleaning quote in this valley is attached to rooms. Ours is attached to 450 square feet, and that number decides whether three rooms sit inside the starting price or past it. Ask about it first, then ask the four questions further down: who is coming, what they will not touch, what the guarantee is actually worth. You will know more than most people who book.
- A phone figure is not a quote. Three rooms start at $109 and the cap on that is 450 square feet rather than three doorways, so somebody has to measure it in your house.
- Ask who is coming. Ours are LocalPro employees, hired and trained here.
- A guarantee you cannot repeat in one sentence is barely a guarantee. Ours is one sentence.
- Ask what a company will not touch. We do four kinds of work, and nothing of yours ever leaves the house.
Start with what the number is attached to
Nearly every quote in this valley is attached to rooms, and a room is a soft unit. A den in a compact ranch counts as one, and so does a great room in a newer house out toward Ooltewah that could swallow a three-room allowance by itself. Ours is attached to a number instead: 450 square feet, whatever shape it arrives in.
So ask any company on your list where the base price runs out. If the answer is a room count with no size behind it, the real total is being decided later, in your hallway, by somebody already parked outside. That is a poor moment to discover it. We put the ten busiest cleaners in the market against the same public tests on our comparison page, and only two of the ten publish a price at all.
| What a shopper actually compares | Ours |
|---|---|
| Three rooms totaling 450 sq ft | from $109 |
| A fourth room of ordinary size | typically $40–50 |
| One flight of stairs | typically $40–50 |
| Any area rug, by the square foot | from $1 |
| Pet treatment per room, pet jobs from $149 | typically $30–40 |
| Any visit, whatever is booked | starts at $99 |
Four questions worth asking before you book
Where does the starting figure run out?
You want a square-foot figure, a per-room rate past it and a stair rate. Three numbers. Fail to get all three on the phone and you will be negotiating at your own front door.
Who is walking into my house?
An employee of the firm you rang, or a contractor with his own van? Ask for proof of insurance too. A company that has it to hand has been asked before.
What happens if I am unhappy?
Listen for a sentence. Pet jobs add a 100% pet odor removal guarantee on top of it.
What do you not clean?
The best answer is short and comes quickly. A company selling every surface under your roof does two of them weekly and the rest twice a year.
The answers that should slow you down
None of these prove you are being cheated. They prove the conversation is unfinished, and finishing it on the phone costs you nothing.
- A firm total for a house nobody has seen. It is a guess, or it is an opening bid.
- "We will sort it out when we get there." Fine on the day. Not fine as the only thing you can get beforehand.
- A price that cannot pay for an hour of a trained person's time. The gap gets recovered in your living room, through add-ons nobody mentioned.
- A menu a dozen services long. Ask how many of those they actually ran last week.
A quote is a document, not a conversation. Whatever you are told over the phone, ask for the figure in writing before work begins. Ours goes on paper at your door once the rooms have been measured, and once you approve it the number cannot move while a machine is running. That habit heads off nearly every argument in this trade. The rest of the day is set out in our cleaning day guide.
Employees, or whoever was free that morning

This is the question people skip and later regret. Plenty of carpet cleaning around here is subcontracted, so the name on the van, the voice that answered the phone and the man kneeling on your stair treads can be three separate arrangements. Nothing about that is improper. It only means a problem has somewhere to travel besides a desk.
Ours are our own people, on our payroll and our insurance, trained on the low-moisture method before they are sent to a customer alone. 72 jobs have been finished in the past ninety days here, every one of them by somebody on that payroll. Their names and faces sit on the crew page, which is a fair thing to ask any company for.
What a guarantee has to say
Ask for the guarantee in one sentence. If it takes longer than that, the conditions are doing the heavy lifting. Ours is six words and it covers the whole clean: love the clean or it's free. Pet work adds the 100% pet odor removal guarantee on top, and that one stands up because the treatment takes the source apart.
While you are at it, ignore badges. We are listed with the Better Business Bureau rather than accredited by it, and we hold no local chamber membership. You will not find an accreditation seal anywhere on this site, only a plain link to our BBB listing. No badge ever got a traffic lane clean. The 4.9 stars across 510 Google reviews on our reviews page at least describe work somebody had done.
One local question nobody thinks to ask

Ask what a cleaner does before anything wet touches your floor. The dirt tracked in here is full of grit, so it both colors a carpet and wears it down. Soak it before you lift it and the grit turns to slurry headed for the backing.
The answer you want is a thorough dry pass, every time, before any moisture. We wrote the long version in dirt and grit in Chattanooga carpet. Dry time is the companion question, and the answer tells you what equipment a company runs: our low-moisture clean is walkable in about an hour, and anyone quoting you the next morning is soaking the carpet to clean it.
The other question is the sofa. Ask whether the technician reads the care tag before anything starts, because an S-code fabric wants a solvent-based clean, an X-code fabric wants an even lighter hand, and a company that runs one wet process on everything finds that out on your upholstery. Ours are trained to read it first and match the low-moisture process to it, using solutions that leave nothing harsh behind for a child or a dog to lie down in. That is how one visit takes on wool, silk and the delicate fabrics most cleaners decline.
Here is the work we turn down
Nobody local writes this part, so it is worth a minute. We do four kinds of work: carpet, area rugs, upholstery and mattresses. If a floor is hard underfoot, it is not ours. If it lives inside the walls or above the ceiling, it is not ours either, and asking nicely will not change the answer.
Rugs get cleaned on the floor of the room they live in, and a hand-knotted Oriental is handled at the same rate as a big-box polyester; the fiber changes the solution and the pace of the hand. They never leave the house. No drop-off counter, no van run, no two weeks of waiting, and nothing of yours for us to misplace.
Carpet that is still wet underfoot is a drying job before it is a cleaning job. Drying a house out is a different trade with different equipment and we do not own any of it. Get the floor dry, then call us, and the cleaning after that is ours.
Saying all of this out loud costs us a few calls a month. It saves you the worse call, the one where a company says yes to everything and then sends a man who has done it twice.
What we would do in your position

Ring two companies. Ask each where the base price runs out, who is coming, what the guarantee says and what they will not touch. Write the four answers down. The one that gives all four without hedging has usually been asked before.
When you want ours, call 423-284-0493, text 423-284-0493, or book online and pick a slot. Our technicians live and work around Chattanooga, and we take calls six days a week, 8 AM to 6 PM, closed on Sunday. Every number we charge sits on the price page, so you can read it before anyone picks up.
Questions we get before people book
What should I have in front of me before I call for a price?
A room count, a rough size for the biggest one, and whether stairs are involved. That is enough for anyone honest to tell you on the phone whether you sit inside the three-room price, which starts at $109 with a 450-square-foot cap, or past it. Say the word pets while you are at it, because that treatment typically runs $30 to $40 a room, and pet jobs start at $149. Ring 423-284-0493 with those four things and the figure you hear will be near the one you sign.
Why will no one give a firm total without measuring the rooms?
Because the limit is square feet, not doorways. Three box bedrooms and three big ones are an identical room count and a very different job, and 450 square feet is where the $109 starting price runs out. We measure in front of you at the door and put the total on paper before equipment comes off the van. Anyone who commits to a final figure sight unseen is either guessing or intending to revise it in your hallway.
Does the technician who shows up work for the company I called?
Ask, because a fair share of the time he does not. Ours are LocalPro employees, on our payroll, under our insurance, and put through the process here before they see a customer's house alone. When a job is passed to whoever had the morning open, a complaint has two companies to travel between and neither of them owns it. Ours stops at an owner's desk.
What has to be in a guarantee before it means anything?
What it covers and what you get, in one sentence you can repeat back. Ours is love the clean or it's free, and that is all of it. A second promise rides on pet work, the 100% pet odor removal guarantee, so a smell we treated that returns gets re-treated at no charge. A promise that needs a paragraph is usually one you will never collect on.
Is the lowest quote in the Chattanooga area usually the real total?
Rarely, because hardly anyone in this market publishes prices at all. When a number never has to survive contact with a printed page, the one you hear on the phone exists to get a van into your driveway. Ours are all public: three rooms from $109, typically $40 to $50 a room after that, around $20 to $30 a hallway, about $40 to $50 for a flight of stairs, and from $1 a square foot on any area rug. Hold whatever you are quoted against that list.
What carpet cleaning work does LocalPro turn away?
Anything that is not soft. Carpet, area rugs, upholstery and mattresses is the entire list, and it is shorter than what most companies around here advertise. Rugs are cleaned on the floor of the room they live in and never leave your house, so if you want one collected we are the wrong call. Carpet still wet underfoot has to be dried out by somebody else first, and after that we are glad to take it on.
How do I tell whether a company's reviews are really local?
Open the profile and read the recent ones for towns, roads and job types you recognize. Fifty reviews naming Hixson, Ringgold and East Ridge are worth more than five hundred lines that could have been written anywhere in the country. Our main Chattanooga profile reads 4.9 stars across 508 Google reviews, and every before-and-after pair from this market came off a job in this valley. Ask anyone on your shortlist for both of those.
Back on your floor before lunch is over.
