Before the day is picked

A time that fits the week here, and a floor dry by sundown

LocalPro cleans three rooms of Collegedale carpet, up to 450 square feet of it. Very little water goes into the fiber. To book, call 423-284-0493.

Collegedale is nineteen miles from downtown Chattanooga. I-75 to Exit 11, then east on Apison Pike, about twenty-five minutes. Our crews make that run most weeks.

The mileage is the easy part. Collegedale keeps a week that no other town on our route keeps, so the booking conversation here starts with the day rather than the room count.

The Collegedale week

The town where Friday ends at sundown

Seventh-day Adventists keep the Sabbath from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday, and the practice puts household work, cleaning included, on the near side of that line. In a town that grew up around Southern Adventist University, that is not a footnote. That is the calendar.

You can read it off the store doors. The university's own Village Market closes early on Friday and stays closed all day Saturday. Anybody who has gone looking for groceries here at four on a Saturday afternoon has already met the pattern.

The awkward part for a service business is that the deadline moves. Sunset in Chattanooga runs from about 5:30 PM in late December to nearly 9:00 PM in June. A two o'clock Friday job is comfortable at midsummer and a real squeeze in January, so we quote Friday by the month.

That is why Thursday and Friday morning are the slots we hold back for this town. The house is being readied, and the carpet is out from underfoot with hours to spare. Saturday is the single most requested cleaning day nearly everywhere else we work. Here we never assume it; ask and it is yours.

Sunday is when Collegedale runs its errands and sees people. Our own phones and crews keep Monday to Saturday hours, 8 to 6, so a Sunday message gets answered first thing Monday.

What we find on the floor

Apartments on Apison Pike, bedrooms upstairs

Carpeted upstairs bedroom in a newer subdivision house off Apison Pike

Carpet in Collegedale comes in two shapes and they call us for different reasons. The Apison Pike corridor has filled with apartment communities, the Village at Apison and Hawthorne at the Summit among them.

Southern Adventist University stacks three residence halls and its own apartment communities on top of that, with a few thousand students in them. All of it turns over on an academic calendar. The heavy weeks land late April into May and again in August, not the June and July the rest of Hamilton County moves in, and a carpet clean between tenants is a different job from a family clean: empty rooms, a deadline set by somebody else, and a floor that has to photograph well.

The owner-occupied side is the subdivisions off the Pike. Production-builder layout, which means hard surface through the main living areas and carpet left where it still gets walked on: bedrooms, the upstairs hall, the bonus room.

Put every bed on the second floor and one flight of stairs ends up carrying every trip anybody makes in that house, from the laundry basket to the dog. In these houses the staircase is usually the piece that makes the whole upstairs look tired before its time. A straight low-moisture carpet cleaning handles most of it in one visit, and the whole upstairs is ready to walk on well before the day is out.

Shot on the job

The part of the job you can see

Each shot was taken in the room by the technician working it, once at the start and once at the end, and the owner sat down with the whole file and chose these. What you are looking at is a customer's floor, never a stock library.

What you are booking

What the visit covers

Three rooms start at $109, up to 450 square feet of carpet between them. In a house off the Pike that usually works out to two bedrooms and the bonus room, or three bedrooms if they are the size builders here tend to draw them.

In a two-story house with every bed upstairs, one flight of stairs has taken more feet than any single room in the place, and it is the first thing our technician looks at. The solution breaks the film holding the soil to the fiber, agitation frees it, and the lift carries it up and out of the pile. A staircase cleaned this way stays looking right about three times as long.

A wool piece, a silk one and a hand-knotted Oriental get the same measured pass as the polyester rug in the playroom, and we work on them where they lie, on your own floor, so nothing gets rolled up and driven off.

Furniture goes by the piece, which is what lets the den seating ride along on a carpet appointment without changing the shape of the day. Before any of it starts the technician reads the care tag, because the code on it, W, S, WS or X, decides how that fabric is handled, and low moisture handles all four without risk. What we use is safe to have around small children and animals, and the person using it is on our payroll. If a dog has had an accident in a bedroom, treating the stain and the smell is the one service here with a 100% pet odor removal guarantee behind it. All of these figures sit on the pricing page.

Stays cleaner 3× Longer between cleanings on average vs. a soapy conventional clean

Ever had carpet turn sticky a week after a cleaning?

That tacky feeling is detergent the machine couldn't rinse back out. It dries inside the fiber and stays there, and sticky fiber grabs the next soil that walks through the door.

✓Nothing sticky left behindOur low-moisture process uses a fraction of the water and leaves the fiber clean and bare, so there's no soapy film for dirt to cling to.
✓Stays cleaner about 3× longerOn average, carpet cleaned our way holds its look about three times longer between visits than carpet left with detergent residue in it.
✓No re-soiling a month laterThe gray path that reappears a few weeks after a cleaning is almost always residue pulling soil back. Take the residue away and it stops happening.
✓Dry in about an hourA fraction of the water means no soaked carpet and no box fans running all evening. Furniture, kids and dogs are back on it the same afternoon.

Questions Collegedale households ask

Can you finish before sundown on a Friday in December?

Yes, if we start in the morning. Sunset in Chattanooga sits near 5:30 PM in late December, so a Friday afternoon appointment is tight here and a Friday morning one is not. Three rooms is a short visit and the carpet is dry about an hour after we pack up. Tell the office it is a before-Sabbath booking and we aim for the first slot of the day.

Do you book Sunday appointments in Collegedale?

No. Our phones and our crews run Monday through Saturday, 8 AM to 6 PM, and we are closed Sunday. We know Sunday is when a good part of Collegedale does its errands, so a message left that day gets answered first thing Monday morning. For most households here the practical answer is Thursday or Friday morning, and those are the slots we try to keep open for this town.

My address says Ooltewah. Is this still the right page?

Yes. 37315 is the Collegedale ZIP on paper, but it covers little more than the university campus and post-office boxes, so most Collegedale street addresses mail as 37363 Ooltewah or 37302 Apison. All three of those ZIPs sit inside the area we cover, so the calendar takes whichever one your mail uses. Give the office the road and the subdivision and the job goes on the Collegedale run either way.

When do the Southern Adventist apartments turn over?

Late April into May, then again in August. The university runs it off its own academic calendar, and the newer complexes along Apison Pike move on close to the same clock. That puts the turn weeks a month or two ahead of the June and July season the rest of the county moves in. Book the block early and you get the days you actually want.

Which day of the week do most Collegedale families ask for?

Thursday, and after that Friday morning. It runs opposite to the rest of our route, where Saturday is the day everybody competes for. Households here are getting the house finished before sundown Friday, so they want the carpet cleaned and dry while there is still daylight left to put the furniture back. Thursday openings in Collegedale go first.

The rest of this corner of the county

Ooltewah is three miles west, Apison is straight on down the Pike, and McDonald sits out the other way toward Cleveland. If our technician needs a landmark, The Commons and its 56,000-square-foot open-air market pavilion does the job, so does Four Corners Place at 9408 Apison Pike, and so does whichever spot you get on the Greenway along Wolftever Creek.
