Carpet cleaning in Normal Park, where the school year picks the date

Normal Park carpet cleaning is low-moisture work done by our own trained technicians: the soil is lifted up and out of the pile, and the room dries in about an hour. Normal Park is 2.1 road miles from downtown Chattanooga, and houses here are bought for an attendance line, so the work stacks into summer.

Where the name came from

A teacher-training college gave these streets their name

A school has stood on this ground since 1896, when a teaching college bought the property. A normal school meant teacher training, and the neighborhood took its name off the college rather than the other way about. It is Normal Park Museum Magnet now, and it is why families buy on this grid instead of a bigger house further out.

A household that picked a street for its school asks a cleaner sharper questions too: what is in the bottle, who exactly is coming to the door, and how long the floor is out of use. Those are the right questions. Nothing that comes off our van is toxic, it is gentle enough for a house with a toddler and a puppy in it, and a bedroom is ready to walk on again about an hour later.

As for who comes to the door, it is one of our own technicians, trained by us and on our payroll. The same person walks the rooms with you and stands behind the result: love the clean or it's free.

The school's calendar, not ours

June, July and the first half of August do a year's work

A house bought for a school zone sells in a window, so the deeds change hands between one school year and the next. We clean a family out of a house on Mississippi Avenue on the Tuesday and another into one on West Mississippi on the Thursday. By mid-August it goes quiet until spring.

Everywhere else in the city the rush is the two weeks before Christmas. Here it is the two weeks before the first bell. Give us the closing date on 423-284-0493 and we will set the visit just ahead of the moving truck. An empty house is the best clean it will ever get. The technician can work every inch of the floor. That half of the trade lives on the move-out and move-in cleaning page. We work Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 6 PM, closed Sunday.

Who is standing on the carpet

Small children and the dog that came with them

Paw prints on a bedroom carpet in a Normal Park house, before the pet treatment

An attendance line sorts for one kind of household. The children are elementary-school age, the puppy was bought for a seven-year-old, and between the two of them a bedroom floor takes juice, mud off the morning walk and accidents from an animal that has not worked it out yet.

The treatment that matters most here is not the general clean. Pet stain and odor treatment works down to whatever is actually causing the smell, and it comes with a 100% pet odor removal guarantee. We treat the full size of the accident, which under the surface is always wider than the mark on top.

The clean itself is low-moisture carpet cleaning, with barely any water left in the fiber and solutions mild enough to use in a room a child crawls on. A room done at nine on a Saturday has the toys back on it by lunch.

The grid itself

Two streets, sidewalks both sides, a front door in constant use

Mississippi Avenue and West Mississippi Avenue run the spine of it. The elementary building sits at 1009 Mississippi Avenue and the middle school is on West Mississippi. Everything between them is laid out for walking: sidewalks both sides, short front yards, alleys behind some blocks, children on foot.

A door used twenty times a day brings in whatever the sidewalk had on it, and it lands in the first six feet inside. That lane is where a cleaner shows what the process is worth. Ours pulls the soil back up through the pile, and with no sticky residue left behind the lane stays clean roughly three times longer than a soapy pass would leave it. Carpet on these streets tends to sit in the bedrooms, with a rug on the floor of the rooms below.

Wool, silk and an Oriental handed down through the family all get the same careful handling. Each one has its care tag read first, so a piece marked for solvent only gets solvent and never a water-based cleaner. We work on it where it lies, and it never leaves your house. The in-home rug cleaning page sets out how that runs.

How people give directions here

  • Normal Park Museum Magnet, 1009 Mississippi Avenue
  • Northside United Presbyterian, 923 Mississippi Avenue
  • St. Marks United Methodist, 701 Mississippi Avenue
  • West Mississippi Avenue, for the middle school

Give us the nearest of these when you book. Any one of them puts the technician on the right block first time, with no ringing round from the corner.

What the hour on your floor buys

What the visit covers on these two streets

Three rooms start at $109, and that covers 450 square feet of carpet all told. Past those three the technician counts the rooms, the hall and the flight of stairs with you at the door, tells you which ones are worth doing and which can wait a year, and does not guess at anything out of your sight.

Protectant is the add-on worth asking about on this grid, because the carpet in a child's bedroom is about to meet the next five years and a treated fiber gives soil far less to cling to. Ring 423-284-0493 with the room list, or send a picture to 423-284-0493 and the technician will talk you through what the room actually needs. Nothing starts until you have seen the whole thing in writing and said yes to it.

Every picture here belongs to us. The technician who cleaned the floor took it standing in the room, once on the way in and once on the way out, and the owner kept only the ones that show the work plainly.

Around the corner

The rest of the city, off the same van

Downtown Chattanooga is nine or ten minutes south of the school on a weekday morning, and our technicians live and work around here. The citywide version of this page is the Chattanooga carpet cleaning page.

Normal Park questions, mostly asked in July

How far ahead should we book to have it done before the first bell?

Two to three weeks in June or July, and about a week the rest of the year. The gap between the last day of one school year and the first day of the next is the busiest stretch we have on these two streets, because that is when houses on the attendance line change hands. Ring 423-284-0493 with the date the family is due to sleep in the house and we will set the visit a day or two ahead of it. The room is dry and back in use about an hour after the technician packs up, so the clean never swallows a moving day.

We close in July and the sellers kept two dogs. What should we ask for?

Pet stain and odor treatment on the rooms the dogs actually used, and an empty house is the best chance you will ever get at it. We treat the full spread of each accident, and the work carries a 100% pet odor removal guarantee. In a house about to hold small children, treating the old accidents before the furniture lands is worth more than any clean you can buy afterwards. We will tell you at the door which rooms need it and which do not.

Is an hour of drying really enough with small children in the house?

Yes, and that hour is the reason a Saturday works here. Very little water goes into the fiber. The room is left just damp to the touch and takes traffic again an hour or so later. Nothing we spray is toxic, and it is fine around children and animals. Nobody has to find somewhere else to be for the afternoon.

What does a juice spill in a bedroom actually need?

Usually the room clean, not a stain call on its own. Sugar left in the fiber stays sticky and holds onto every bit of dirt that lands on it afterwards. A spill from March reads as a dark patch by September. Cleaning the whole room is the sounder job anyway, and the technician tells you at the door which of the two it needs.

Back on your floor before lunch is over.
