What the buildings are
Where the carpet is in a North Shore apartment
Walk into a newer apartment up here and the living room, kitchen and hall are hard floor. The builder kept carpet where it still earns its place: the bedrooms, the run of stairs between floors, and the landing at the top. That is a concentrated job, and it rewards care over speed.
It is also a job that rewards doing properly. Bedroom carpet in a rental takes the same shoes and the same dog a house does, only in a smaller space, so the soil packs into a shorter lane. A soapy clean spreads that soil and leaves a residue that pulls in more. Ours lifts it out of the base of the pile and leaves nothing sticky. Frazier Avenue is the spine of it, shops at street level with apartments over the top. Cherokee Boulevard, River Street, Tremont Street, Barton Avenue, Spears Avenue and West Bell Avenue carry the rest of the addresses, and the converted mill on Manufacturers Road set the pattern for the whole district: loft apartments dropped inside an older shell.
Nobody up here leads with a house number. They tell you it is two blocks from the carousel in Coolidge Park, or a short walk from the Walnut Street Bridge, which is how half the neighborhood gets downtown. What travels with a tenant is the rug and the sofa, and both get asked about at the same booking. The technician reads the care tag before touching either one. The letter on that tag is the whole instruction: S means solvent only, W means a water-based clean, WS will take either, and an X is worked slower than any of them. A low-moisture pass stays inside what all four allow, and you hear which one your piece falls under before anything is opened.

Past that, the technician counts the bedrooms, the hall and the stair flight with you inside the unit, because a landing that takes every trip to the elevator wants far more time than a spare room nobody has walked on since the building opened.

Can you clean a third-floor apartment with no driveway?
That is most of what we do on this side of the river. The gear is small enough to carry up an outside stair or walk through a lobby, and it runs off an ordinary outlet. Tell us the floor, the door code and whether the curb space out front is metered, and the crew carries everything up in one trip. Nothing gets wedged in a fire door and the stair stays open the whole time.
Can a unit be cleaned Friday afternoon and handed over Saturday morning?
Yes. The equipment we run is built for that gap: it lifts the soil out with very little water, so the floor is walkable again within the hour and a Friday job is ready for a Saturday key handover with room to spare. Two bedrooms and a landing are one straightforward visit, and the flight between them is cleaned tread by tread. You get a dated receipt with the unit number on it for the leasing file.
Does a one-bedroom apartment cost less than the three-room price?
Often, yes. Every visit starts at $99, and three rooms up to 450 square feet start at $109, so a one-bedroom with a short landing usually prices near the visit minimum rather than the three-room figure. The technician measures at the door, writes the figure down before the gear comes up the stair, and that is the number on the invoice.
Do rugs have to leave the building to be cleaned?
Never. Your rug is cleaned on the floor it already lies on, and wool and silk get the same care as anything else, with the tag read before a bottle is opened. We do not roll rugs up and cart them off, which matters more in an apartment over a shop than anywhere else, because there is nowhere out front to park a van for a handover. The pile is barely damp when we leave, and dry in about an hour.
