Carpet cleaning in North Chattanooga, where the job is usually the stairs
North Chattanooga is the stair neighborhood. Between the narrow runs off Barton Avenue and the three-level townhouses closer to the river, most households here have two carpeted flights and a fair number have three. We work every tread and every riser separately instead of dragging one pass down the run, and the flight walks dry in about an hour.

Two kinds of staircase
Two kinds of staircase, and one careful way to clean both

Ask for the stairs up here and you will be shown one of two things. A narrow run that turns at a half-landing with a fitted runner down the middle, or a townhouse flight that climbs two full levels before anyone reaches a bedroom. They wear the same way, and they get the same treatment from us.
Water is the thing to control on both. Our low-moisture carpet cleaning puts a fraction of the moisture into the pile that a soaking clean does, so nothing works through the backing toward whatever sits underneath.
The runner is where the care tag matters. A wool runner carries a different code from a synthetic one, and a technician who reads the tag first knows whether the piece wants a water-based clean or solvent only. That check is standard on every visit, not an extra. Low moisture is the safe answer whatever the code says, so the runner gets cleaned where it sits on the treads.
What comes out is the difference you can see. Soil on a stair gets ground into the base of the pile, and a soapy pass smears it around and leaves a film on top. Ours lifts it up and out and leaves nothing sticky behind, so a flight stays cleaner about three times longer.
Where the dirt actually sits
The nose of the tread takes everything, the riser takes almost none
A staircase is the easiest surface in this trade to price wrong and the hardest one to get properly clean. Every trip through the house lands on the same two inches at the front of each tread, and the face behind it stays close to untouched. The soil is not spread over the flight. It is packed into a stripe, and it comes out stripe by stripe.
That is why the crew does not drag a single pass down a run. Each tread and each riser is worked on its own terms. Plenty of these flights are handed from one tenant to the next, and that version of the work sits on the between-tenants cleaning page.

Why there is a flight of steps before the front door
Terraced front yards put the first three treads inside the door to work
A good many blocks up here sit on terraced front gardens, which means steps from the sidewalk to the porch before anyone reaches the hall. Grit rides up those steps on shoes and lands on the first three treads inside the door, every time, and that is the stretch we spend longest on.
It is also where a careful technician earns the visit. He walks the flights with you, shows you which treads carry the wear and which have barely been touched, and says plainly what will come back and what will not. He is our own employee on our own payroll, never a subcontractor picked up for the morning, and if you do not love the clean, it is free.
Stringer's Ridge runs along the west flank with seven miles of trail on it, and where a trailhead sits at the end of the street, the dog comes back with the ridge on all four feet and takes it upstairs. The pet odor treatment that follows works the full spread of the mark, and it comes with our 100% pet odor removal guarantee.
The shape of a two-flight visit
Counted flight by flight, cleaned from the top down

Three rooms start at $109 and take in 450 square feet of carpet. A three-level townhouse usually reads as two flights, a landing and three bedrooms, and the technician counts those pieces with you at the door. He will also tell you which flight wants the slow treatment and which one is fine with a lighter pass this year.
Rugs get the same honest handling, wool and silk treated with the same care as everything else and worked on your own floor where they lie. The landing rug and the runner at the foot of the flight are the two we are asked about most here; how we clean rugs inside the house covers the rest.
Tell us how many flights and how many rooms on 423-284-0493, or send a picture of the worst tread to 423-284-0493 and a technician will tell you what that flight needs. We work six days, 8 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday is ours.

Stair questions we get asked on Barton and Dartmouth
How do you price a three-story townhouse where most of the carpet is on the stairs?
Line by line, and the flights get their own lines. Three rooms start at $109 and cover 450 square feet; each flight of stairs typically adds $40 to $50, a landing or hallway $20 to $30, and further bedrooms usually $40 to $50 apiece. A three-level house with two flights, a landing and three carpeted bedrooms is quoted as exactly those pieces, in writing, before a machine is switched on. Every visit starts at $99.
Why is the front edge of every tread darker than the rest of the step?
Because the nose of the tread is the only part of a staircase anyone actually stands on. It takes the whole household's weight and the grit that comes with it, while the vertical face behind it is barely touched, so a flight that reads as evenly gray is really a stack of dark stripes two inches wide. We work each tread and each riser on its own. That is slower, and it is the only thing that moves that line.
Do we have to stay off the stairs all day after you clean them?
No. A low-moisture clean leaves the fiber damp instead of wet, so a flight is back in use in about an hour and most families here are up and down it before dinner. That hour counts for more on a staircase than anywhere else in the house, because a damp bedroom can be shut and worked around and a damp stair cannot. We clean from the top down, so the flight nearest the bedrooms is finished first and free first.
Can the rug on the upstairs landing be cleaned at the same visit?
Yes, and it is the add-on we get asked for most on this side of the river. A hand-knotted Oriental, a wool flatweave and a machine-made runner all get the same careful handling, with the cleaning code read off the label before anything is opened. We clean it on your landing, where it lies, and the rug never goes down the stairs. Ask when you book the flights and it joins the same visit.
