Carpet cleaning four floors up, in Southside / Downtown

Downtown and the Southside live in stacked housing: lofts over Market Street, apartment blocks off Main, and a service elevator between the van and the front door. Our gear is portable and the clean is low-moisture, so a job here starts at a parking deck, the soil comes up out of the carpet, and the floor is dry in about an hour.

What is actually on the floor

What a downtown carpet actually needs

A cleaned living-room carpet in a newer Southside Chattanooga apartment

Most of the carpet in the newer buildings downtown is still in good shape, so the calls down here are upkeep rather than rescue: a walking lane worn in between the elevator landing and a front door, and a spare bedroom nobody has touched since the building opened.

Upkeep is where the method shows. A soapy clean brightens a lane for two weeks and leaves a film that pulls the next month's grit straight back in. Ours brings the soil back up and out, and leaves nothing behind for it to stick to, so the floor stays cleaner about three times longer between visits.

Almost no water reaches the backing, and the reasons sit on our low-moisture carpet cleaning page. Nothing in the bottles is toxic, and it is mild enough for a one-bedroom where the child and the dog have nowhere else to go while the floor dries.

The exceptions are worth naming. The townhouses and the handful of detached houses in the district are the addresses with a real staircase in them, usually two carpeted flights and a landing that takes the worst of it, and those flights are worked tread by tread.

Give us the building name and the floor, and mention the elevator, and the technician arrives able to start.

How the job starts

No driveway, so we begin at the dock and the elevator

Everywhere else we work, a job opens with a van at a front door on level ground. It does not open that way here, because the front door is four floors up and the building has rules about how anything reaches it.

There is a deck to park in, a dock to load at, a service elevator with a reservation sheet, a fob for two doors, and a manager who wants warning. None of that is a problem. It is the part that decides the appointment time, so we ask while we are still on the phone with you.

The other thing setting the date is the lease. Most of these units are rented, and lease dates are set by a signature, not a mood, so a between-tenants clean is scheduled backward from the day keys change hands. That side of the work sits on our move-out and turnover page.

Call 423-284-0493 with the building name and the floor, or text 423-284-0493 a photo of the room and we will quote from that. Mention the elevator and we will book around it.

Why the dry time counts for more here

Your floor is somebody else's ceiling

Stack the housing and a wet carpet stops being your own business. Water left sitting in a fourth-floor carpet has only one direction to go, and the neighbor underneath is the one who finds out.

In a detached house across the ridge, an over-wet clean is a nuisance you walk around for a day. In an apartment block it gets a cleaner barred from the building. That hour of dry time is what makes this work possible in stacked housing at all, and it is the first thing a careful building manager asks us.

It keeps the rest of the unit usable too. We work a room at a time, so the dog stays shut in the bedroom that is already finished, and no equipment ever sits across a fire door.

Two blocks, two different jobs

From 1400 Market Street to the Fort Wood Victorians

A wool area rug cleaned in place on the floor of a Fort Wood home

Terminal Station at 1400 Market Street opened in December 1909, and people still give directions by its dome, or by Finley Stadium on Carter Street. That is the pattern across the district: older shells with new interiors dropped inside them, and in most of them the carpet is the newest thing in the room.

Drive up to Fort Wood and the job changes shape. Those houses are floorboards with rugs on top rather than wall-to-wall, so the call is usually for the rugs, the stair runner and the sofa, and each one gets its care tag read before anything starts.

That reading decides the method. A wool Oriental marked for solvent only is cleaned with solvent, a W-coded synthetic with a water-based solution, and anything carrying an X is worked the most carefully of the three. Low moisture is safe across the lot of them, and the technician explains the handling at the door.

Silk and wool get exactly the same care as anything else, and the job is done in the room the rug lives in. Nothing is rolled up and carried out. In a building with one elevator, that is the point. The method is on our in-home rug cleaning page.

Before the gear comes up

What we do once everything is upstairs

Three rooms start at $109, and the 450-square-foot allowance is shared across them. Past those three the technician walks the unit with you and says what the hall, the fourth room and a townhouse flight each need, and which lane wants the extra time. All of it is written down and handed to you while the gear is still out by the door.

Add-ons get named the same way. Pet work goes after what is soaked under the fiber, and it comes under a 100% pet odor removal guarantee. That counts for plenty in a building where a smell travels under a door. A sofa can go in the same slot, and the rest of that work sits on our upholstery page. Love the clean or it's free.

Look at the floors

Judge the work by the floors it leaves

No adjectives here, just carpet. Every pair was shot on a genuine customer job by the technician who ran it, and the owner picked these two out of everything our crews have brought back.

Around the city

Where else we go from these blocks

Everything inside the city limits is on our Chattanooga carpet cleaning page, and these blocks are a ten-minute drive from most of it.

What callers in these buildings ask first

Do you need a freight elevator booked before you arrive?

Tell us the building's rule and we will work to it. Most buildings down here want the service elevator reserved and a certificate of insurance on file with the manager, and a few allow vendor work on weekdays only. Give us the manager's name when you book and we will make that call ourselves. Our equipment is portable and comes up in one trip, so the elevator is held for a few minutes.

Will cleaning my carpet put water into the ceiling below me?

No. Our equipment lifts the soil out with very little liquid, so a low-moisture pass leaves the fiber damp rather than wet, and there is no standing water to find a seam, a pipe chase or a light fitting in the unit underneath. It is fit to walk on again roughly an hour later. Four stories up, that hour is the difference between a cleaning and an insurance claim.

How do you get into the building if I am at work?

Three ways, and any of them works. Leave a fob at the front desk in our name, authorize your building manager to let the technician in, or buzz us up from your phone if the entry system allows it. We send a text when the van is a few minutes out so nobody waits around. If you would rather be there yourself, we are open 8 AM to 6 PM every day but Sunday.

My apartment carpet still looks fine. Is a clean worth it before it looks dirty?

Yes, and this is the easiest point in its life to do it. Grit that gets walked into a fiber that still looks good is exactly what flattens the pile early, and lifting it out now is what keeps the carpet looking new for years. A soapy pass would leave a film that pulls more in. Ours leaves nothing behind. Three rooms cover up to 450 square feet, which in most units down here is the whole carpeted floor.

Back on your floor before lunch is over.
